It is a sad day indeed when a site has to close due to lack of activity. Pagan Pantry has now closed and I can only sympathise with Lady Venus. As all creators of sites know, a lot of work and dedication go into building a site, and many hours. I can spend 12hrs a day on this site alone.
But a site can not be successful with members who don't participate in activity. It doesn't matter how long we creators spend trying to keep things updated, answering emails and comments, it's the members who keep it going. Why did you join a site if you were not going to be active and join in discussion, posting blogs, giving an opinion and stay in touch with the friends you made?
There are so many sites to choose from, and so many more sites opening up everyday. Its difficult to choose and difficult to stay loyal to a handful never mind one site. I am guilty of this myself, although I do try and make up for it in other ways. But members have to realise they joined a site to take part in the activities, not just join groups for the sake of joining, making friends just to grow a friends list, whats the point if your not going to use them?
There are many members who do stay loyal to a specific site and without them we would struggle to keep our sites open. All their input sometimes go un-noticed and they can work more than site creators. These are the members who are serious about their craft and their continous search for knowledge and awareness. These are the members who don't see the site as a free information package to use and then discard of and leave a site struggling to remain open.
So I ask, that before you do join another site, which I'm sure you will, please ask yourself if you have the extra time to spend on that site and not just sign up because you got a request from a friend. It's all very well supporting another friend or another site, it is meaningless if you are not prepared to spend some time there. We all receive an abundance of requests everyday, we don't want to let the person down or feel we are not supporting them as friends, so we join. Easy done. I have. But I'm sure there are many site owners would rather have a handful of loyal members than phantom members.
So give it some serious thought before you join another site or another group. If you do join, remember you are making a committment to the site and its members, you are agreeing to participate, even in a small way.
To Lady Venus, I wish I had know about your difficulties and found a way to help. It is a sad day and I am sure there are many of your loyal members who will agree and will be sad to see this closure. And to members who did not participate.........think on.
